Field Applied Instructions

Failure to follow these instructions may result in the window opening control devices (WOCDs) being ineffective in controlling the window opening.

A copy of the safety information shall be provided to the owner of the building in which the window opening control device (WOCD) is installed and to the occupant in the dwelling where the opening control device is installed (or is to be installed).

NOTE: This instruction is for Ultimate Double Hung G2 (UDHG2), Ultimate Double Hung Insert G2 (UDHING2), Ultimate Single Hung G2 (USHG2), Ultimate Single Hung Insert G2 (UDSHING2). When installed and used as directed, the Window Opening Control Device meets the requirements of ASTM F2090-17.

Building and fire codes shall be consulted before installing WOCDs. Contact local building code department or fire department for specific applicable codes and install in accordance.

Follow manufacturer’s assembly and installation instructions carefully. Failure to do so may result in accidental window falls.


Possible Fall Hazard

  • Young children may fall out of the window if the window opening control device (WOCD) is not installed correctly.
  • Install the device so that a rigid 4.0-in. (102mm) diameter sphere does not pass through any space at the lowest opening portion in the window opening after the WOCD is in place.
  • Young children may fall out of the window if all installation instructions are not followed.
  • Use recommended materials and techniques.
  • Make sure that the WOCD is securely installed in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Make sure that the window frame is in good condition.

NOTE: Once installation of unit is complete, check WOCD for proper operation. When the sash is closed and locked, the WOCD should automatically engage.

NOTE: WOCD are available on all standard UDHG2 and UDHING2 sizes.

Required Tools:

  • Phillips screwdriver (No. 2)
  • Clamp
  • WOCD Stile Jig (UDHG2/UDHING2)
  • WOCD Check Rail Jig (UDHG2/UDHING2)
  • 1/4" ID, 5/16" OD Router Guide
  • Router Lock Nut
  • Router
  • 1/4" Dia. Router Bit for Wood
  • 1/4" Dia. Router Bit for Fiberglass
  • Drill with 7/64" Drill Bit
  • Vacuum

Parts needed or to be replaced:

  • If the top or bottom sash is damaged, contact Customer Support, it may need to be replaced with a sash with factory-applied WOCD components. For kit details, refer to Table 1.

Field-Applied Install Process


Inspect all fabrication jigs before and after each use. Ensure steel inserts are not loose and do not show heavy wear. Contact Customer Support if a replacement is needed.

Top Sash

1. For the 1.0, remove the #7 x 7/8" screws from the locking latches. Remove latches. See Figure 1.

2. Place the non-handed stile jig onto the sash and install the spacer block between the jig and the check rail. Secure with a #7 x 7/8" screw. Do not over tighten the screw the jig may lift on the opposite end. For the 2.0, use a quick grip clamp and secure the opposite end. See Figure 2.

3. Set router bit depth to 13/16" and route correct area using jig. See Figure 3.

4. Remove jig and perform steps 1-3 on opposite side.

5. Remove jig and clean out any debris from the sash. Install the locking latches and window opening control device. See Figure 4.

Bottom Sash

1. Lay sash on a flat surface.

2. Secure the sash to work surface with clamp. Remove the vinyl check rail cover. Remove the left and right hand locking bolt screws (4 total). Do not loosen or remove the cord screw. See Figure 5.

3. Remove the locking bolts. Slide the check rail jigs into place and secure with the screw from Step 2 See Figure 6.

4. Set router depth to 1 1/4" and route. Do not allow router to contact the foam block. Route starting at the top to create an indent so that a blow out doesn’t occur when finishing the cut. See Figure 7.

5. Remove the jig and clean debris and excess material by the foam pad. Install the bottom check rail bumper under the locking bolts and fasten screws. See Figure 8.

6. Install the vinyl cover on the check rail. Apply the window opening control device sticker between the sill liner and thermal break.
