The Industry PulseBy Marvin Windows
At the start of each year, Window & Door magazine recounts the past year’s trends, and looks to what the coming months may bring. Focusing specifically on the fenestration market, the 2019 study highlights current trends in employment, sales, tariffs & trade policy, and products. Kris Hanson, senior manager of group product management, and Rachel McKinnon, director of market intelligence, both share their industry insights in the study.
Seventy-one percent of respondents plan to hire next year — in sales, manufacturing, installation/delivery, management and marketing. “As 2019 approaches, we expect the skilled labor shortage to continue to be an issue due to fast growth in the construction industry and younger generations considering other career options,” Hanson said. “Marvin is doing their part to close the skilled labor gap and support the industry by investing in numerous programs and partnerships that aid in the development of potential trade workers.”
“While this will be helpful to bridging the skilled labor shortage and skills gap, we are also aware technology may change what exactly our labor needs might look like in the future,” McKinnon said.
