A Farmhouse's Progression

A Maine Home + Design article walks through a remodeled waterfront farmhouse in Arrowsic, ME. Strategic planning enabled the homeowners to maintain the functioning pieces of the quaint farmhouse, and integrate contemporary add-ons. The layout of the home changed completely. In place of two unwelcoming entryways, the homeowners repositioned the main door to the forest-facing side of the house. They also created an apartment-like space for extended family to stay.

Marvin windows ensured that the home was airy, open, and filled with natural light. “Almost anywhere you are in the house, when you are circulating around, you can always find a window and a way to face outward,” noted architectural designer Wiebke Theodore.
